Ten Years On: Friday The 13th

For this 'Ten Years On' post we take a look back at "Friday The 13th".

It's a very well known fact that "Friday The 13th" is a firm Horror favourite, I myself am a huge fan.

What you have to remember here is that this film was released six years after "Jason X", a film that seemed to divide fans of the franchise (personally I absolutely loved it) and many were left wondering where the franchise would go next. What could they possibly do now he'd been in space?

Well it seemed the answer was to do a reboot, unfortunately for fans it was Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes that took on the project. They'd already rebooted "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "The Amityville Horror" and remade "The Hitcher" before this so it was no surprise to anyone really.

Me and a very good friend of mine went to watch this for a laugh, and laugh we did. Instead of jumping and fearing the suspense we were both in tears at how bad this was, how can you take a film eve slightly seriously with lines such as "You got perfect nipple placement, baby"?! I was howling with laughter.

The film was a disaster, it was like watching a softcore porno with gore and it basically turned 'Jason' into a clever, fast running weed grower. Yes, let's not forget that seriously long opening segment (25 minutes long!) It had absolutely no point to it at all. It's no surprise that the planned sequel got canned, even with the feature making over $90million.

This "Friday The 13th" reboot has its fans but I'm not one of them, it felt like a sarcastic take on the franchise. Ten years on and it's still one of the funniest things I've seen, the problem is though is that that wasn't intentional.
