Horror Review: Parents (1989)

A young boy living in 1950s suburbia suspects his parents are cannibalistic murderers.

Ever have a film that has burned itself into your memory? This is that film for me.

This was a film I picked up on one of my many visits to the video rental shop, I was only young and the store owner didn't bother with age ratings (it was different back then).

Once home I ran to my room and put in the cassette and for the next 80 minutes my brain was put through a blender and it's never been the same.

The film stars Randy Quaid and Mary Beth Hurt star as our creepy parents, whilst the film is humorous it's very dark in its subject and is quite traumatising for a young mind.

Even rewatching it recently, it still makes me feel uneasy. It's shot so well which adds more to the effect of the film, making it darker and creepier.

"Parents" is certainly worth a watch, I feel it was a little ahead of it's time.
