Horror Review: The Sacrament (2014)

Two journalists set out to document their friend’s search to find his missing sister.

I always thought the “Jonestown Massacre” would make for a great movie plot, it just has all the right elements for a Horror film.

The film is shot in a 'found footage' style mockumentary which actually really adds depth to the films familiar plot, well we all know what's going to happen, don't we?

Ti West is a director I have a love/hate relationship with but with this feature he was certainly in my good books and had me transfixed to the screen throughout the whole film.

Although this was mainly due to Gene Jones who plays the role of 'Father', the Jim Jones character is highly charismatic and has the audience eating out of the palm of his hand, much like the actors in the picture portraying his followers. The rest of the cast also put in a great performance but Gene Jones truly outdoes everyone else.

Whilst the plot is pretty much a rip off of a real life event and it has Eli Roth's name attached to it (luckily only as Producer) I was highly impressed with the flick and found myself truly entertained. Although this may have been helped by the fact I've had a fascination with Jonestown for many years.

"The Sacrament" admittedly isn't for everyone but I recommend you at-least give it a try, you may be surprised.

If you want to see the "The Sacrament" trailer then just click on the video below:

  1. I think you posted the wrong trailer. The one you posted, although it looks very amusing, is for Sacrament (which looks nothing like the movie you describe) while the one you should have posted is for The Sacrament (which looks more like the right movie). It pops up when you finish watching in the things you should watch next but it could be confusing to some people.

  2. Cheers for pointing that out, sorted it.
