Horror Review: Slashers (2001)

Japan's number one extreme reality show is having it's first all-American special! Six lucky contestants, chosen from thousands of applicants, will have the chance to win millions of dollars, and all they have to do is stay alive!

Half the time I'm positive my brain is tricking me by mixing my imagination with reality when it comes to films. Then I'm happily reminded that the film did exist halfway through watching it.

This sort of thing happens when you spend most of your time watching films but I was so glad when I found this gem again, I think I enjoyed watching it more this time round than the first mainly because I now knew it wasn't a figment of my imagination.

The film maybe over a decade old but its social commentary still stands up, so much so in-fact that you wouldn't think it was made that long ago. Greed and nudity go together very well and it's not lost here.

Yes the film is low budget but don't let that bother you, what we have here is a truly amazing film that mixes Horror, comedy and much more and it does it well. Writer/Producer/Director Maurice Devereaux does a great job and his enthusiasm certainly shines through, what he managed to do with his limited budget is fantastic.

The acting isn't the greatest but it actually works for this feature, it gives it a sense of realism. My favourite part is that you can clearly see the influences, the 'slashers' are clearly portraying well known characters (Freddy, Jason and Leatherface) and mixing that with the reality show style is pure genius.

"Slashers" is a fun film that can be watched with a group of friends and a few beers on a Friday night, go ahead give it a try.
