Horror Review: Familiar (2012)

Through a series of tragic events, a middle aged man grows to suspect the negative impulses plaguing his mind may not be his own.

I've always loved Horror shorts and in recent years they have just got better and better, so when I was asked to review "Familiar" I jumped at the chance.

We're introduced into the life of John Dodd, it's nothing exciting, in-fact it's a very boring suburban life he lives. We come to learn that he isn't exactly happy living this life either and seems to be having a breakdown.

Robert Nolan, who plays the role of John Dodd, is superb, he encapsulates the thoughts and feelings his character so well that it's kinda scary. Why this guy hasn't done bigger things just dumbfounds me?!

The narration of the film is amazingly well done, as is it's beautiful camera work and effects. I just can't find one little fault with this short film at all, well actually I can, I would have liked it to be longer than it's 25 minutes running time but what we're given in this short time is phenomenal.

Richard Powell and Zach Green have taken a Stephen King/David Cronenburg vibe and managed to put it on screen without it becoming a muddled mess. I seriously want to see these guys make a full length feature, if they could make a full length film as tense as this who knows how successful it could be.

"Familiar" is an absolutely fantastic short, if you get the chance to watch it then don't let it pass you by.
