Horror Review: Stake Land (2010)

Martin was a normal teenage boy before the country collapsed in an empty pit of economic and political disaster. A vampire epidemic has swept across what is left of the nation's abandoned towns and cities, and it's up to Mister, a death dealing, rogue vampire hunter, to get Martin safely north to Canada, the continent's New Eden.
I must admit that when it comes to vampire movies I don't really have much interest these days. It has been a very long time since a decent film was done about our beloved monsters.....That was until I saw Stake Land.

If Twilight killed off the Vampire then Stake Land brought it back to life. This film doesn't hold back at all, also with the setting as a post apocalyptic world with people trying to survive the epidemic they're in works so well you feel like if this where to happen this is how it would be.

The film may be a bit of a rip off of Zombieland in some ways but that doesn't take anything away from the film at all. The plot is excellently played out and no stone is left unturned, the dialogue is magnificent, especially the character of Martin's narratives.

The character Of Mister is one that should go into Horror's hall of fame under badasses, he is a kick-ass character that you just root for every time. What shocked me though was the turn up of Danielle Harris midway through the film, she plays a pregnant lady trying to get north as-well and is taken along for the dangerous ride, she is perfect as always and I still find it hard to believe she's such an under-rated actress.

I also can't believe the budget was only $4m, yes I know it's alot of money, but it's not in Hollywood, and when you see it you will see exactly what I mean.

If you haven't seen this gem then go watch it ASAP! Yes I do think it's that good.
