Film Trailers: Keep It A Surprise!

We all like a good film trailer, it's what makes us decide whether we want to watch a certain film or not, if it's your type of film, we all get excited when we see a trailer is out for a film we've been really looking forward to.

My problem with film trailers is that they seem to show you the whole film in that short space of time.

A film trailer is supposed to be an advertisement, a snippet of the film, it's supposed to make you want to watch the film. How many times have you seen a trailer and thought to yourself "Well no need to watch the film now, it just showed everything in that trailer!"?

They seem to get longer and longer every year, the average trailer used to last 30 sec to 1 minute, now the average trailer lasts 2-4 minutes.

There's no surprise, no secret, no mystery! Do you remember the days were you wanted to see a film because the trailer was so mysterious you wanted to know what it was all about?!

The other thing that annoys me is where you see a GREAT film trailer and what you've seen is all the best bits of the film!

All I'm saying really is, is that I want mystery back in my trailers! It's been soooooo long since I saw a film trailer that left me thinking "I HAVE TO SEE THAT FILM!"

Just keep it short, leave us wanting more, don't show us the film's entire plot in one short film. Remember less is more!

  1. The trailer for Super 8 was great, short sweet, and it made me want to at least find out what the heck it was about! XD
