Horror Review: Return To Horror High (1987)

A few years ago, a mysterious serial-killer caused panic on Crippen High School. The killer was never caught. A movie company, Cosmic Pictures, has decided to make a feature movie about these events - on location, at the now abandoned school. Since members of cast and crew disappear without a trace, it seems as if history is repeating itself...

"Return To Horror High" is mainly known as being George Clooney's first film role but to me it's an overlooked film of the 80's. It is in the behind the big shadow of Clooney but it deserves a spotlight of its own. In 1982, the town of Crippen was rocked by a series of murders at Crippen High School. The killer was never caught. Several years later, Cosmic Pictures, headed by sleazy producer Harry Sleerik, has come to Crippen to make a movie about the murders, setting up shop in the high school.

When cast & crew start disappearing people start to panic that the killer is back. The plot to this film is actually very clever and the dialogue is very funny in places (it's billed as a Horror/Comedy). The acting can be a bit off and it seems a bit campish but that adds so much to this film.

One of my favourite moments is when there discussing the woman's topless scene whilst she's stood between them topless, its comedy gold. That's just my personal favourite but there are a-lot of great scenes

A film within a film is a very hard plot to pull off, but it's pulled off so well here. It does start to get you thinking & guessing, Which I always enjoy but it's just not something you expect from a Slasher/Comedy so it feel's like an added bonus.

Even the ending to this film is just fantastic, very unexpected and original. It completely caught me off guard.

If you love your 80's films you should give it a try because it is pure 80's gold, for entertainment value it's right up there with the best of them, I've said it before & I'll say it again, the 80's was a golden era!
