Horror Review: The Collector (2009)

Desperate to repay his debt to his ex-wife, an ex-con plots a heist at his new employer's country home, unaware that a second criminal has also targeted the property, and rigged it with a series of deadly traps.

In a time where Horror films seem to be going "Teenager Friendly" it was great to finally watch a film where they didn't hold back and had shock value. The other shock was that some of those fans calling for more "Adult Horror" snubbed this film.

No, the film wasn't a box office hit, but does that matter to a viewer? Especially in a genre where b-movies are adored. With a budget of only $3million (Which isn't a-lot in today's industry) and with a casting of Josh Stewart, Michael Reilly Burke, Madeline Zima, Diane Goldner & more you'd easily think the budget was more. It certainly doesn't look like a low budget(ish) film.

Also the kills in the film are very clever, original and crowd pleasing! Also the killer is very creepy, sort of like a more sadistic Michael Myers figure.

A few people are put off by the fact it's done by the makers of SAW 4,5 & 6, but seriously don't let that tag put you off. If, like me, your sick of watered down Horror then give this a watch.

It even has a sort of 80's feel to it, just a bit more updated for today's market.

The acting and story is fantastic, it's a movie that, if you let it grab your attention, can have you on the edge of your seat.

It is a clever movie and it's also a film where I'm actually looking forward to the sequel.
